By Carrie Richardson, Co-founder, Fox & Crow Group Data: Fox & Crow Instinct · Updated September 2026
As of September 2026, according to Fox & Crow Instinct, the MSP decision intelligence platform, Phoenix, Arizona has 118 companies operating as primary managed service providers (MSPs). Across the core Phoenix metro, including Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Peoria and Glendale, that number rises to at least 266.
The US Census Bureau counted 3,573 businesses selling IT hardware, software, hosting, telecom or related services in Maricopa County in 2023, and 2,384 of them (67%) have fewer than five employees. The county, the city and the core metro are different geographies; this is a comparison of categories, not a citywide Census MSP count.
Instinct counts a company as an MSP only when it delivers the full set of managed IT functions, sells them on a recurring managed model, and runs managed services as its core business.

Why most Phoenix MSP lists are wrong
Buy a list of “Phoenix MSPs” and you'll get thousands of rows. Most of them aren't primary MSPs.
Generic lists are built from industry codes and keyword matches, so anyone who mentions IT support ends up on them. In Phoenix, that can include:
Residential computer repair and home tech support
Break-fix shops that bill by the hour with no recurring contracts
Value-added resellers that mainly move hardware and licenses
Software developers and web agencies
Solo IT consultants and staffing firms
If you sell to MSPs, every one of those rows costs you. Your reps call companies that will never buy, and your territory plan is sized against a market that doesn't exist.
How Instinct counts an MSP
Instinct classifies a company as an MSP (Primary) when three things are true:
It delivers the full set of managed IT functions clients expect from an MSP.
Those services are sold on a recurring managed model.
Managed services is the company's core operating business.
Every company in Instinct is evaluated against the same definition. Industry codes, keywords and self-descriptions don't decide it. Read the full methodology →
For each MSP, Instinct also tracks operating maturity, detected technology and vendors, reputation, hiring, and what's changed recently.
